Sri Lanka’s president has announced he will step down after protesters stormed his official residence and set the prime minister's house on fire.




Hundreds of thousands descended on the capital Colombo, calling for Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resign after months of protests over economic mismanagement.
The United States has appealed to the Sri Lankan leadership to act promptly to resolve the country's economic crisis.

The Sri Lanka protest burned the house of the president during the protest. The nation has suffered from constant high inflation, food and fuel scarcity amongst other economic woes.
